The 1.5-litre K15C mild hybrid petrol makes 103 PS and 136.8 Nm. It's smooth and refined but never urgent, adequate in the city while requiring some planning for highway overtakes with a full load. The 6-speed torque converter is a better companion than the manual for most buyers.

The strong hybrid is the standout. A 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle engine paired with an electric motor and a 177V battery, producing 116 PS combined through an e-CVT. It launches on electric power alone, runs in EV mode at low city speeds, and is genuinely quiet. Under hard acceleration the e-CVT does drone, which is the trade-off.

The CNG version makes 88 PS and 121.5 Nm through a 5-speed manual. Noticeably slower, but running cost drops to roughly ₹2.80 per kilometre.

Ride quality is a real strength. The suspension absorbs broken tarmac with a composure most rivals miss, and 210 mm ground clearance means speed breakers and rural roads pose no concern. Handling is safe rather than engaging, as this is a comfort-first SUV, and it's honest about that.

Interior: The Maruti Grand Vitara interior is Maruti's most convincing effort at premium. It has not been crash tested. The Grand Vitara has not been assessed by Global NCAP, Bharat NCAP or Euro NCAP. There is no star rating, not a poor one, simply none. Several rivals in this bracket carry published ratings, and if that's your primary filter, that gap is worth weighing.
