Maruti Suzuki Fronx
Overview Of Maruti Suzuki Fronx
The Maruti Fronx did something unusual for a Maruti product — it created its own space rather than filling an existing one. Launched through Nexa in April 2023, it took the Baleno's underpinnings, raised the ride height, added coupe-crossover styling, and gave Maruti a genuine sub-4-metre SUV without the compromises of a scaled-down hatchback.
Maruti Fronx price starts at ₹6.85 lakh and reaches ₹11.98 lakh ex-showroom across 14 variants, spread over Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta and Alpha trims.
Its defining feature is choice. This is the only Maruti car sold with a turbo-petrol engine – the 1.0-litre Boosterjet — alongside a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a factory-fitted CNG option. Five powertrain configurations in one model line is rare at this price, and it's the main reason the Fronx has appealed to such a wide range of buyers.
Sales bear that out: even after a 35.2% year-on-year drop, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx stayed among India's top 15 best-selling cars in February 2026 with 13,898 units. Where it needs honest scrutiny is crash safety, and that section is covered in full below.
Best for: City driving with occasional highways · Buyers wanting turbo performance on a budget · High-mileage CNG users · Hatchback owners upgrading to SUV styling
The Fronx is one of the better-judged all-rounders under ₹12 lakh. The 1.0 Boosterjet has genuine mid-range punch, the ride quality over broken roads is excellent, and 190 mm ground clearance is proper SUV territory. The trade-offs are limited rear headroom for taller passengers, a seating position that isn't as commanding as the SUV styling suggests, and turbo lag below 2,500 rpm.
Maruti Fronx Variants: Which One Should You Buy?
Fronx Sigma - The entry point. Six airbags, ESC and hill hold are standard here, which makes it far more defensible than base variants used to be. But no touchscreen, no alloys, no rear camera. Suitable if the budget genuinely stops here.
Fronx Delta - Where the car becomes properly usable. 7-inch SmartPlay touchscreen, steering-mounted controls, keyless entry, rear parking camera. The sensible entry for private buyers.
Fronx Delta+ - Adds automatic climate control, 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control and better trim. The best-value naturally aspirated variant, and the one most 1.2-litre buyers should target.
Fronx Zeta - First turbo trim. The 1.0 Boosterjet, LED projector headlamps, 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 360-degree camera. This is where the Fronx becomes a genuinely enjoyable car.
Fronx Alpha - Head-up display, wireless charger, upgraded audio, ambient lighting, dual-tone roof option. Well-equipped, though you're paying close to ₹12 lakh ex-showroom.
Fronx Sigma / Delta CNG - 28.51 km/kg makes this among the most economical SUVs in India to run. The catch is boot space, which shrinks substantially with the cylinder fitted.
Best value pick: Fronx Delta+ MT for petrol buyers · Fronx Zeta Turbo MT if you want the engine that defines this car
Engine and Performance
Three engines, three quite different cars.
The 1.2-litre K-Series makes 88.5 bhp and 113 Nm. Smooth, refined and adequate for city work, but it needs revving on inclines with a full load. The 5-speed AMT is convenient in traffic though noticeably jerky under hard acceleration.
The 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo is the reason enthusiasts look at this car. 98.69 bhp and 147.6 Nm — that torque figure is 30% higher than the 1.2, and it arrives from about 2,000 rpm. Mid-range pull is genuinely strong, the engine has a pleasant throaty note, and the 6-speed torque converter with paddle shifters is far better resolved than the AMT. The honest criticism: below 2,500 rpm it feels flat, and you notice the lag from standstill.
The CNG version produces 76.4 bhp and 98.5 Nm. Slower, clearly, but running cost drops to roughly ₹2.60 per kilometre.
Ride quality is a real strength across all variants. The suspension absorbs broken tarmac with composure, and 190 mm ground clearance handles unmarked speed breakers and rural roads without concern. The one styling-versus-substance gap: the seating position isn't as elevated as the SUV proportions imply, so the commanding view many buyers expect isn't quite there.
Interior, Features and Colours
Maruti Fronx features worth highlighting: the 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, head-up display, 360-degree camera, wireless charging, cruise control, ambient lighting, and Suzuki Connect telematics with over 40 connected features.
The cabin uses a dual-tone layout with a leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel on higher trims, and under-thigh support is better than most rivals. The recurring complaint from taller owners is rear headroom — the coupe roofline that makes the Fronx look good costs you a few centimetres where it matters.
Fronx colours: Nexa Blue, Splendid Silver, Opulent Red, Arctic White, Grandeur Grey, Earthen Brown and Bluish Black, with dual-tone black-roof options on Delta+ and Alpha.
Maruti Fronx Safety Rating
Standard on every variant: 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts, rear parking sensors, TPMS and three-point seatbelts for all. Zeta and above add a 360-degree parking camera.
Now the part buyers searching for Maruti Fronx safety rating or Maruti Suzuki Fronx crash test results deserve stated clearly.
The India-spec Fronx has not been tested by Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP. No Indian crash rating exists. What does exist are three overseas results on differently specified cars:
| Testing body | Rating | Which car was tested |
| Japan NCAP | 4 stars (84%) | Japan-spec, with full ADAS |
| ASEAN NCAP | 5 stars | Indonesia-built, with ADAS |
| Australasian NCAP | 1 star | Made-in-India, ANCAP protocols |
The ANCAP result deserves the most attention because it tested a made-in-India Fronx — the same production line as your car. ANCAP found good head and neck protection in frontal impact but weak chest protection, marginal foot protection from excessive pedal movement, and poor rear-seat and child occupant protection. It also penalises heavily for missing ADAS, which the Australian car has and the Indian car does not.
